Dry Eye after LASIK

Pricking Irritation of Friction

eyes

The prognosis of dry eye after LASIK depends on dry eye before LASIK.

An eye that had a tendency to go dry before LASIK was done upon it will have more of it for some time after LASIK has been performed on it.

A person having a tendency to get a dry eye after LASIK needs to go through many preventive and curative procedures before Lasik as well as after it.

eyes

Eyes need sufficient quantity of tears in them from lacrimal glands, forming a tearfilm in order to keep infections away as well as provide a smooth optical surface warding-off friction and being conducive to proper refraction of light through it along with the cornia and the lens.

While creating the flap during the LASIK procedure, a certain number of the corneal nerves are temporarily damaged.

It may affect the working of the lacrimal gland and thus, cause a dry eye after LASIK for quite some time that stays there for around a couple of months.

You need to use lubricating and moisturizing drops very often after the procedure.

If your eyes were already dry before LASIK, the whole effect tends to go more acute and you might need using Punctal Plugs in your eyes both before as well as after surgery.

Why before?

If your tearfilm is not adequate before LASIK, corneal topography may give inaccurate measurements affecting your results negatively!

Isn't there some procedure that takes care of doing what LASIK does, but in a better and less cumbersome way without creating this new problem of dealing with dry eye after LASIK, rather tackling it along while tackling with the correction of vision through vision therapy?

There certainly is!

And it is instant!!
