Eye cancer is a cancerous growth of cells in the eye.

Cancer affecting the eyeball is called intraocular cancer.

Cancer affecting the orbit is called orbital cancer.

Cancer affecting the adnexal structure is called adnexal cancer.

Primary intraocular cancer starts inside the eyeball.

Melanoma is the most common primary intraocular cancer in adults, followed by primary intraocular lymphoma.

In children, retinoblastoma is the most common primary intraocular cancer, and medulloepithelioma is the next.

Secondary intraocular cancer spreads to the eye from another part of the body.

Generally breast and lung cancers are spread to the part of the eyeball called the uvea.

Intraocular melanoma develops within the eyeball in adults.

90% of intraocular melanomas develop in the choroid.

10% of intraocular melanomas develop in the iris.

Primary intraocular lymphoma starts in lymph nodes.

Medulloepithelioma inflicts young children only, in general. It causes eye pain and decreases vision.

The only treatment option is surgery.

The surgeon normally tries to remove only the tumor, but if it is not possible, the eye has to be removed.
