Eye Drops

The Local Help from Out

eyes

Eye drops are saline drops of medicated liquid to be administered into the eye.

They are very popular among the masses as well as very easy to administer.

Whenever people feel something going wrong with their eyes, the first thing they tend to go for are these drops only.

Different eye conditions have different medications for their eye drops to contain:

eyes

  • Steroids

  • non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

  • parasympathomimetics

  • prostaglandins

  • topical anesthetics

  • sympathomimetics

  • antihistamines

  • parasympatholytics

  • beta receptor blockers

Sometimes these drops are there only for the lubricating purposes.

At others, they are just a liquid to act as tear-replacing solutions.

Precautions to take while using eye drops:

  • Shake the bottle before use if it is a suspension.

  • Never handle them with dirty hands.

  • Take the help of a mirror, if you are alone.

  • Wipe eyes clean.

  • Open the bottle and tilt your head back.

  • Stretch the lower lid down a bit while looking upward.

  • Squeeze a drop inside the lower lid from above.

  • Blink eyes to spread the liquid uniform.

  • Wipe the eye.

  • Repeat with the other eye.

  • Close the bottle and keep it back, taking care not to touch the dropper tip.

  • Let the medicine get absorbed in before you put another eye drops, in case you have to.

Dos and Don'ts:

  • Don't share your eye drops with others.

  • Don't wear contact lenses while putting the drops in.

  • Don't drive, if your eye drops blur your sight, till the blur is there.

  • Stop using, if the medication used in them hurts your eyes, and consult the doctor.

  • Take care of the expiry date as well as of the time-duration (1-4 weeks) after opening the bottle.

  • Keep away from children's reach.

  • Store under proper temperature.

  • Let your eye drops not mix into your bloodstream, by taking care of pressing on the tear duct while putting in the drops and for a while after; in case you are either pregnant or breastfeeding.
