Eyes being the most delicate organs in the body, eye protection becomes a concern of prime importance whether in the workplace, in sports or at home.
Most of the eye injuries occur in the workplaces only.
The reason often is that the workers are either not wearing any eye protection, or if they do, they are wearing a wrong kind of it.
Generally flying particles or sparks, and contact with chemicals cause the bulk of the eye injuries in the workplace.
Machine shops and manufacturing places are the main locations where such accidents take place.

Wearing an effective eye protection device reduces the chances of eye injuries occurring, to a minimum.

But care must be taken to maintain these devices in a proper way otherwise their efficacy goes down drastically.
Goggles for spark or fine dust protection must be having a provision for indirect venting through them.

It has been estimated that 90% of the eye injuries can be prevented if proper eye protection devices are used by the employees in the workplaces while on job.
In fact, providing effective eye protection in the workplace is a mandatory requirement enforced by law and the onus of such protection lies on the employers and not the employee.

But if the employees are not conscious, aware and careful for the purpose of their own safety, every system that provides the eye protection will go crashing down.
Hence the need for a training program creating awareness among the employees regarding eye protection is the need of the hour.

More than 90% of the eye injuries to the workers wearing eye protection are caused by the objects or chemicals flying around or from under the protector.
Goggles generally provide greater protection to the eyes than face shields alone.

But the best protection is achieved when goggles are worn with face shields along.
