Special Eye Charts

Eye Test Variety

eyes

There are some special eye charts that are used for various other purposes than the Snellen chart is!

Their range extends from highly technical ones used for the most uncommon eye aberrations and diseases to the most general ones used for spiritual uplifting rather than eye vision testing.

Such special eye charts named Yantras are very popular in the Indian spiritual practice called Tantra.

I will soon be getting a few Yantras also, here, on this page for your perusal.

The first one of these special eye charts is the astigmatic mirror that is used to diagnose and reduce astigmatism. Here is the chart (credit: www.i-see.org):

Eye Chart for Astigmatism

If an astigmatic looks at the lines near the center, some of the lines look darker in some directions than others.

A typical astigmatic will see the lines near the horizontal clearer and darker than the vertical ones.

Horizontal lines may look spaced wider than the vertical ones, too!

Also the inner circle may not look quite round in shape.

Using the astigmatic mirror to reduce astigmatism involves playing around with its lines and trying to make them look identical through trial & error and the consequent feedback, that keeps changing from moment to moment.

Vision therapy does the same thing, i.e., correct vision, but only with the benefit that it is instantaneously done through third eye opening.

Another one of the special eye charts is the Amsler Grid that is simply a square mesh of horizontal and vertical lines looking like this (credit: www.nei.nih.gov):

Here is the Amsler Grid as it might appear to a person who is afflicted with age-related macular degeneration (credit: www.nei.nih.gov):
